Thulite – Norway’s beautiful national stone.
On Østre Brandsfjell in Lierne, at the border of Blåfjella-Skjækerfjella National Park, there is one of Norway’s largest deposits of the mineral Thulite. In order to reach the deposits it takes a 7 kilometer long trek through bogs and mountain terrain.
The shortest way is to start at the end of a forestry road that goes up from the Otersjøen Fangstanlegg on FV 74.
The trip is best from July to September as other parts of the year the area can be covered by snow.
Have plenty of food, drink, and clothing for variable weather conditions. Expect to use the entire day. There are harvested amounts from the mountain and it is OK to take a little souvenir from the trip.
